Transparent Things Reflection

'Surface focus' if we focus on just the surface of thought when looking at an object we live in the moment of it, whereas if we break further we experience a deeper meaning of that object. We look behind the physical outside form and start to get an understanding of the story of that object whether that be memories or historical meaning.

Further in the book, it shows Nabokov's importance of details, as mentioned before the deeper understanding and history of objects. A good example of how he shows this importance is the pencil. By writing a short story of events in where the small object is involved with everyone in a different way that then influenced them shows the inner importance that the pencil now holds as its created a memory from each person.
