What is Post Modernism?

Postmodernism is one of the most controversial movements in art and design history. The movement developed and existed from about 1970 to 1990, Postmodernism shattered already made concepts about art and design, making a departure from modernism which had been based on clarity and simplicity. The key principles were complexity and contradiction and in architecture, you would see more bright colours, playful and whimsical designs and a variety of different materials and shapes.

I see Modernism as very clean cut futuristic designs almost machine-like perfection, then Postmodern seems to come far-from-perfect future. Whether designers used salvaged and distressed materials to produce an urban aesthetic or very bright colourful glossy, faked surfaces to the outcome was to create an exaggerated style statement.
